Sister Cities' Gardens - Haswell Quarry Park

Location
Halswell Quarry Park is about 10.5km from Cathedral Square. 10 km from the square, via either Halswell Road, Sparks Road or Cashmere Road, then 1 km along Kennedy’s Bush Road.
Description

The Sister Cities Gardens at Halswell Quarry Park was a millennium project initiated by Turning Point 2000. The gardens cover almost 20 hectares and form part of the 55 hectare park at the quarry site, on the outskirts of Christchurch.

The individual gardens have been designed and landscaped after extensive consultations with each sister city and the plants within each garden are all native of their respective regions.
Each of the sister city committees has pledged a significant permanent feature for its respective garden, which is representative of the culture of the sister city.

There are picnic facilities, interesting walks, wonderful views and ample car parking.

The seven gardens represent the sister cities — Adelaide, Australia; Christchurch, England; Gansu Province, China; Kurashiki, Japan; Seattle, USA; Songpa Gu, Korea — and a Canterbury native plant garden.

Features include plants of the countries the plants represent, traditional sculptures and carvings.

Halswell Quarry Park is open daily: 7am to up to 9pm in summer and 7am to approximately 6pm in winter — the park closes half an hour before sunset.
