Domain Walk – Lake Tekapo Walkway

Location

Lake Tekapo lies in the centre of the South Island in an area known as the Mackenzie Basin.

This easy walk starts near the river side end of the Alpine Inn, SH8, Lake Tekapo

Description

This walk follows a poled route close to the gravel road and lake shore. Information panels highlight some of the history along the walk. Past the hydro outlet the walkway continues towards the campground and skating rink.

The shallow waters of the bays around the lake edge often provide a haven for black swan, scaup, pied stilt and, sometimes, even the rare crested grebe and black stilt.
