Mona Vale Gardens
- Location
- 63 Fendalton Road, Riccarton
- Description
Located just five minutes from the city centre and open daily to the public, visitors and locals alike delight in the wandering around Mona Vale’s beautiful Iris Garden, lily pond, rhododendrons, camellias, conifers and maples.
The late-Victorian homestead of Mona Vale is a delightful place to combine a walk around the gardens with a lunch or tea break in the Homestead and a ride in the punt on the River Avon. It is within short driving distance of the central city and was once owned by the Deans, one of Christchurch’s first settler families.
Christchurch is nationally recognised as the Garden City and officially sealed the reputation winning the Garden City of the World title in 1993. The beautiful Mona Vale gardens – five and a half hectares of gardens and landscaped lawns, gently rolling down to the Avon river – are part of the reason for winning this prestigious status.
