Mount Vernon Park

Location
Car park is located off The Crescent at the top of Hillsborough Terrace.
Description

Mt Vernon Park is a good place to explore the easier slopes of the Port Hills. The car park is nestled snugly in a valley with many short walks up to lookouts, a plane table and a track through a gorge. Longer tracks link up with Rapaki Track, and onto the summit of Mt Vernon itself, where there is the Lamar accessible walk beside the Summit Road. The park is managed by the Port Hills Park Trust.

  • The short walks from the car park take 10 – 30 minutes.
  • Mt Vernon Valley Track takes about 1 hour to the point where it meets the Rapaki Track.
  • The Mt Vernon Farm Track climbs up the ridge to Summit Road, taking approximately 1½ hours. Over the road it continues up to the summit of Mt Vernon.
