Corsers Stream & Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park
- Location
- The walk starts from Brooker Reserve and playground off Brooker Avenue.
- Description
This is a walk that links the lower Avon River with Corsers Stream, and there is an optional walk into Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park.
From Brooker Reserve and playground off Brooker Avenue a pathway crosses a footbridge over the attractive Corsers Stream. Turn right (north) here and follow the pathway as it winds alongside the stream, crosses Brooker Avenue and passes another footbridge on the way to Travis Road. (There is an optional walk into Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park, but this does involve crossing the busy Travis Road, see end of text).
Return to Brooker Avenue via either side of Corsers Stream, then follow this road to Stour Drive, and continue to New Brighton Road. Cross this to the Avon riverbank and the Amelia Rogers Reserve. This reserve has been well planted with riverside natives, particularly sedges and rushes beside the fishing jetty. It is a nicely secluded walk along the riverbank, and the pathway leads naturally back to Corsers Stream again. Cross New Brighton Road and a gravel path winds through the ribbonwood and cabbage trees back to Brooker Reserve.
Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park walk
This starts about 300 m west of Corsers Stream beside the 'Travis Country' gates, and a sealed path winds alongside Angela Stream. This stream feeds into Corsers Stream and is already popular with many species of waterfowl, including pukeko, paradise shelduck, black swan, scaup and Canada geese. You may also be lucky sometimes and see a white heron — please keep dogs on leashes. The banks have been extensively planted with native plants such as flax and cabbage trees, and there is a fine outlook over Travis Wetland Nature Heritage Park. The path continues round to Clarevale Reserve.
Corsers Stream has been one of the most successful examples of restoring a stormwater channel into a natural creek, and integrating this with a new housing development.
Dogs can be exercised off the leash beside the Avon Riverbank and Corsers Stream
