Hinehopu Hongi's Track
- Location
- 20 km north east of Rotorua off SH 30. Walk starts either from the Hinehopu reserve or Te Pohue Bay.
- Description
Track leads to Hinehopu’s tree. Well formed tracks run from Karokitewao Bay (Lake Rotoiti) to Te-Pohue Bay (Lake Rotoehu) through forest of rimu, tawa, pukatea and rewarea.
Legend has it that Hinehopu was hidden in the tree and many people have stopped to make a wish at the tree by placing a bit of fern at its base – good luck – may even come true!
