Rimutaka Trig Track (Pakuratahi Forest)
- Location
- The Rimutaka Trig Track starts near the summit of the Rimutaka Hill Road. There is a small car park beside the wooden steps at the sign-posted start of the track. A larger car park, toilets and refreshments, are at the Summit Tearooms.
- Description
The Rimutaka Trig Track starts near the summit of the Rimutaka Hill Road and climbs to the northern crest of the Rimutaka Range. The track zig-zags its way up the exposed slope, where native trees and shrubs have slowly returned. The track surface is rocky in places and strong shoes, or sneakers, are advised.
Low forest, tightly packed shrub land and alpine grasses and lichens are found on the way to the summit. On a clear day you get superb views of southern Wairarapa including Lake Wairarapa and from the Aorangi Mountains south to Cape Palliser.
Enjoy swimming and fishing in the nearby Pakuratahi River and picnic or camp in the pleasant surrounds of Ladle Bend and Summit.
