Alert/Important notice
Big Bend Track is currently closed between Haurangi Hut and the Whakanui Track due to several slips. To get to the Catchpool car park trampers starting from the Whakanui Track need to use the river bed instead.The Whakanui Track takes you from Wainuiomata through to the Orongorongo River in the Rimutaka Forest Park. It can be walked as one way return or connect to the Big Bend and Orongorongo Tracks finishing at Catchpool car park, or tramp through to the Wairarapa on the Papatahi Crossing via Shamrock and Wharepapa huts.
