- Description
Whitireia Park, in Porirua city, is a headland with commanding views over Mana Island, Porirua Harbour and its environs. The park comprises around 180 hectares of predominantly open space grasslands with a remnant patch of native bush. It provides a unique opportunity for people to undertake a variety of leisure activities, such as walking, mountain biking and fishing.
You can walk the coastal track from Te Onepoto Bay to Onehunga Bay and savour spectacular views of the surrounding area from the inland track.
Te Onepoto Bay provides good habitat for many water birds, the estuary being a rich feeding ground. Kingfishers frequent the bay, eating insects, crabs and small fish and shellfish which are exposed at low tide.
