Te Rerekawau (Kaiate Falls)
- Location
- 5 km south-east of Tauranga. They are signposted from Welcome Bay Road as Kaiate Falls. Take Waitao Road and 4.9km up turn left at Kaiate Falls Road. The scenic reserve containing the falls is a further 1km.

Good views of Mount Maunganui and Port of Tauranga.
Te Rerekawau Falls are surrounded by bush where the Kaiate stream drops over ignimbrite bluffs in a series of cascades and waterfalls.
Well formed tracks to upper and lower falls.
The main track leads from the car park to the top of the upper series of falls, then down to their base. It then crosses the stream and continues down to the base of the lower falls. Crossing the stream again it loops uphill past puriri and kohekohe. A short side track goes back to the base of the upper falls or you can continue uphill back to the carpark.
Another track to the left just below the carpark follows the stream to the road bridge. Car parking is available. Above the carpark is a picnic area with tables.
