Mountain Road to Whataroa Waterfall – 60 min one wayTakes about 40 minutes each way with children so great walk for families.
Covered in virgin forest and bird life.
Loop track to the Summit starts behind a shelter and is steep in parts, but the view from the top is worth the climb. There is a tower at the top (640m) which offers panoramic views from East Cape to Mount Tarawera and Rotorua, across Mamaku Plateau to Mount Ruapehu.
Rimu loop walk starts form the opposite side near the car park. It is a gentle graded walk which has large rimu trees and finishes back at the road. A well marked route branches off the Rimu Loop track after 15 minutes and goes through forest to the Whataroa Falls. It is around 18.5 km and 9 hours to the Upper Papamoa Road.
