Aongatete Lodge Tracks
- Location
Situated within the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park at the end of Wrights Road off SH 2 between Tauranga and Katikati.
Nature Trail Loop 15 minutes return
Short Loop walk 1 hour return
Long Loop walk 3 hours 30 minutes
Aongatete River 30 minutes one way- Description
Area contains some lovely lowland podocarp-broadleaf forest with a variety of native species. Walk up to the lodge to start the loop tracks. The long loop track is more difficult with stream crossings and boots recommended. The short loop walk is a more gentle well graded track.
The Aongatete River can be accessed from a track which starts on the western side of the lodge and may be slippery in damp conditions. A left branch of this track (15 minutes down) leads to some attractive swimming holes worth exploring.
